Why the switch?
Deodorant, not normally something that would automatically spring to mind when thinking about how I could be more sustainable, how about you?
The power of advertising should not be underestimated and social media and the information we allow it to gather about us goes a long way to helping companies hone in on their target audience. I’ve been learning about how to be more sustainable for a couple of years now and must have left quite a trail of breadcrumbs (or cookies in this instance!) for advertising companies to follow in terms of sending me adverts I’d be interested in and that is how I stumbled across Fussy deodorants.
Up until this point I’d been using a well known aerosol brand quite happily for years. I’d never tried a stick deodorant but the pretty colours and the fact it’s refillable attracted me enough to make me want to give it a go.
Was it worth it?
When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The case has that kind of “touch me” feel about it and looked almost like a modern ornament on the dressing table. The refillable cartridges inside are compostable and the case, should you decide you don’t like it can be recycled in your normal recycling bin.
Interesting Fact – A study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation found that if refilling were the norm across all personal care and beauty products, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions would be 80-85%!
In terms of performance I have found it to be equally as good as the previous aerosol I was using. No white marks on clothes, no sensitive skin issues and more importantly no embarrassing sweaty pit marks! I’m completely converted on this.
Not only does it perform well but it’s lasting a very long time! I ordered mine in November and am still using the same original cartridge! I’d asked my husband for some refills for Christmas and they’re all still sat in the drawer so I think I may have received a 2 year supply 😁.
Conclusion
In terms of sustainable switches, this one is a no brainer in my opinion. It’s great to look at, great to use, easy to purchase and has reduced the amount of waste I’m contributing to. One thing I haven’t mentioned is it’s also a vegan product and not tested on animals.
